“My heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community,” Whitmer said in a social media post. “Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable. I am grateful to the first responders who took action quickly. We will continue to monitor this situation and hold the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc close.”

What we know:

  • A 40-year-old man drove a vehicle through the front doors of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building today in Grand Blanc, Michigan, before opening fire.
  • At least two people are dead and multiple injured, authorities said. The suspect was also killed in the shooting.
  • The suspect, identified as a Burton man, exited the vehicle and began firing rounds at people who were attending Sunday service, police said. The suspect used an assault rifle.
  • Authorities said a fire also broke out at the church and was believed to have been deliberately set by the gunman. The blaze was extinguished within the past hour, but investigators say more victims maybe be found inside.
  • As many as three improvised devices were found at the scene, according to two senior U.S. law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation.

The deranged madman who killed at least two people and wounded eight others at a Michigan Latter-day Saints church is a 40-year-old Iraq War veteran who served in the US Marines, The Post can confirm. 

Thomas Jacob Sanford rammed his Chevy Silverado truck into the building before opening fire on worshipers at a Sunday service of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan.

The vehicle had two large American flags behind the cab and a set of deer antlers attached to the bumper.
