In this episode we look at the angel declaring that Babylon has fallen.  We discover that through ecumenism, adultery and idolatry we left our first love which opened the door for the judgment angel.

COMMENTARY

The "space of 1,600 furlongs" (or 1,600 stadia) is a symbolic, prophetic measurement in Revelation 14:20, commonly interpreted to represent 200 miles. It describes a river of blood flowing from a winepress to indicate the vastness, totality, and intensity of divine judgment.

Key Interpretations

  • Symbolic Magnitude: 1,600 is \(40 \times 40\) (\(40^{2}\)). In Scripture, 40 often represents testing or judgment, making 1,600 a symbol of total, finalized judgment.

  • Geographical Context: Interpreted by some as the 200-mile length of Israel, or the path of Roman-Jewish wars in the 1st Century, signifying the extent of divine vengeance.

  • Hyperbole: The blood reaches "horse bridles" (approx. 5-6 feet high) over 200 miles, indicating an overwhelming and apocalyptic destruction.

  • Location: The winepress is placed "outside the city," likely referring to the area outside Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified.

Measurement Details

  • 1,600 Stadia/Furlongs: Equals roughly 200 miles, or approximately 320 kilometers.

  • Stadion: An ancient Greek unit of length equal to roughly 606–607 feet
