Acts 9
Book of Acts Episode 9 - Acts 9

Acts chapter 9 is a major turning point in the New Testament. It records the dramatic conversion of Saul of Tarsus—who becomes the Apostle Paul—on the road to Damascus, alongside miracles performed by the apostle Peter in Lydda and Joppa.

Saul's Conversion on the Road to Damascus (Verses 1–19)
  • The Persecutor: Saul active

  • The Encounter: A bright light from heaven flashes around Saul, and he falls to the ground. He hears Jesus ask, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"

  • The Blindness: Left physically blind for three days, Saul is led into Damascus.

  • Ananias's Obedience: God sends a disciple named Ananias to heal Saul's sight despite Ananias knowing Saul's violent reputation. Saul is baptized and regains his sight.

Saul Begins Preaching and Escapes (Verses 20–31)

  • Bold Witness: Saul immediately starts preaching in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God, shocking people who knew him as an enemy of the church.

  • The Escape: Local religious leaders plot to kill him, so believers help Saul escape Damascus by lowering him in a basket through a wall opening.

  • Jerusalem Return: Saul travels to Jerusalem, where Barnabas helps introduce the terrified disciples to him, vouching for his genuine change of heart.

Peter's Ministry: Healing and Raising the Dead (Verses 32–43)

  • Aeneas Healed: In Lydda, Peter finds a man named Aeneas who has been paralyzed in bed for eight years. Peter heals him in the name of Jesus Christ.

  • Dorcas (Tabitha) Raised: In Joppa, a devoted female disciple named Dorcas dies. The believers call for Peter, who prays over her body and brings her back to life, leading many in the area to believe in the Lord.
