Sermon Notes

Kings & Priests

Today we talk about our position in Christ, our role as a priest, etc.

Aaron's robe is physical, Old Testament priestly clothing meant for worship and mediation, while the armor of God is spiritual, New Testament metaphorical equipment meant for Christian warfare.

Aaron's Robe (Priestly Garments)

  • Found in: The Old Testament book of Exodus (Chapter 28).

  • Who wore it: Aaron, the first High Priest of Israel, and his successors.

  • Main purpose: To serve God in the Tabernacle, offer sacrifices, and mediate between God and the Israelites. It represented holiness, glory, and beauty.

  • Physical details: Made of fine linen and specific colored yarns (blue, purple, and scarlet) with gold, featuring a breastplate with twelve gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel and bells on the hem.

The Armor of God

  • Found in: The New Testament letter of Ephesians (Chapter 6:10–20).

  • Who wears it: All Christian believers.

  • Main purpose: To stand firm and fight against spiritual battles, temptations, and unseen evil forces.

  • Spiritual details: Composed of metaphorical pieces: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.

Key Differences

  • Function: Aaron's garments were for approaching God in worship and making peace, whereas the armor of God is for defending against spiritual attacks from the devil.

  • Nature: Aaron's clothing was literal, physical fabric woven by human craftsmen, while the armor of God is a spiritual reality applied through faith, prayer, and truth.

  • Participants: Only the high priest wore Aaron’s specific robe, but every Christian is commanded to put on the armor of God.
