As we all work towards our health goals, our gut is a huge contributing factor to our health.  As I've stated before, we are a tree in God's great garden. There is a whole eco-system on the inside of our gut with lots of creatures in our tree! We are made from dust and will go back to dust!

So, as we journey down this road we need to learn more about this ecosystem. I have prepared some videos to teach us...

According to AI about it..

Gut health refers to the state of well-being of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which is the system responsible for digesting and absorbing nutrients from foodIt encompasses the following aspects:

  • Balanced Microbiome: A healthy gut contains a diverse and balanced population of trillions of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms known as the gut microbiome. These microbes play crucial roles in digestion, immune function, and overall health.

  • Proper Digestion: Efficient digestion involves breaking down food into its components, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste products.

  • Intestinal Barrier Function: The gut lining should be intact and impermeable to harmful substances, preventing leaks that can lead to inflammation and other issues.

  • Immune System Regulation: The gut microbiome interacts with the immune system, helping to protect against infections and maintain tolerance to beneficial bacteria.

  • Mental and Emotional Well-being: Growing evidence suggests a link between gut health and mood, stress levels, and cognitive function.

In summary, gut health is a complex ecosystem that supports digestion, immune function, and overall well-being. Maintaining a healthy gut involves a balanced microbiome, proper digestion, a strong intestinal barrier, a regulated immune system, and positive mental and emotional health.

A higher level of diversity in gut bacteria is an important indicator of the health of your microbiome.

While research is ongoing, it appears that your gut health plays an important role in your overall health.

Signs of an unhealthy gut

Your gut microbiome can be affected by:

  • stress

  • too little sleep

  • lack of physical activity

  • eating too many ultra-processed foods

  • smoking and drinking alcohol

  • taking antibiotics.

The gut microbiome is also affected by things we cannot control, such as our environment, age, birth mode and whether we were breast-fed or bottle-fed as a baby.

While we cannot use one specific measure for our gut health, some signs that you may have poor gut health include:
